All the fun of the Firs

Children aged four to nine are set to benefit from the refurbishment of a popular local park.

New play equipment for four to nine year olds is being installed at Firs Park in Leigh by Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust. The £7 500 scheme includes a roundabout and multi-climber with slide.

Funding has come from the Firs Park User Group and local councillors’ Brighter Borough money.

The refurbishment coincides with the retirement of user group chair Brenda Worsfold, who is stepping down after more than ten years dedication to a cause close to her heart.

Ward councillor Myra Whiteside says:

“Brenda has been at the heart of the group’s activities for many years we’ll all miss her energy and dedication. I know I can speak for all my colleagues on the council when I say that she has always been there for us with help and advice on all things park-related, but there is life beyond Firs Park and we wish her well for the future.”

Firs Park User Group was founded by former councillors Steven Kennedy and Brian Thomas. An enthusiastic Brenda attended the very first meeting, becoming chair in late 1997.
