Town centre safety has been tightened in Leigh with the introduction of alleygates in Bradshawgate.

Three ‘problem’ alleyways at the rear of numbers 9, 30 and 22/24, have been gated following action by the Leigh Township Forum, Community Safety Group and the Council.

Pam Stewart, Joint Chair of Leigh Township Forum explains:

“Local businesses identified these areas as hot spots for crime, illicit activities and environmental degradation. We have experienced legal obstacles and delays, but from now on only authorised people will have access.”

Councillor Myra Whiteside, Chair of the Leigh Community Safety Group adds:

“It’s a pilot scheme and one community safety group members are more than happy to be involved with. Safety and security matter to local people and businesses.”
