Photocall – Photographers/reporters are invited to the litter pick and bulb planting event on the open space at the corner of Kendal Road and Belle Green Lane, Higher Ince at 11.30am on Saturday November 25
Big plans need a big launch.
And folk in Higher Ince have big plans to sweep clean and make a difference to their community.
So the residents have banded together to form their very own community group intent on cleaning up the area.
And the big clean up begins on Saturday (November 25) with residents sprucing up the streets and investing in the future by planning bulbs ready for the spring.
Everyone who takes part in the event will be rewarded with a special certificate and ‘goody bag’.
All the litter picking equipment and bulbs will be supplied by Wigan Council’s Street Scene Team. Wigan and Leigh Housing is also helping out by giving the band of residents support and helping them to formulate the new group with its own constitution.
But its not just the streets that will be getting a tidy because there will be skips of Chatham Street, West Street and Windemere Street to allow locals to dispose of bulky household waste items. The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund has paid for the cost of the skips.
Nick Burdekin, the council’s People and Places Programme Manager, says:
“This is a new group and we are very keen to support residents who want to try and improve their local environment. I have also received investment from the government’s SRB 6 fund for the Ince area, so there should be many more environmental improvements to come over the next six month.”
Chair of the new Tenants and Residents group, Keith Hayes, adds:
“It is important that we work together as a community to bring about a cleaner and greener environment. It is only by working together with our residents and other agencies that we can make these improvements sustainable.”
