Councillors in Aspull and Ince are bringing their traditional surgeries into the 21st century.
From April they are planning to hold ‘one stop shop’ meetings at which members of the public can come and talk to their councillors, local police representatives and community leaders – all at the same time and in one place.
The idea is the brainchild of Aspull New Springs and Whelley councillor Chris Ready. He said: “In the past we have had separate councillor surgeries and police surgeries but it’s a time for change.
“These days it’s all about partnership. We need to address residents’ needs in a modern, joined up way, so we are introducing surgeries at which councillors, police and community representatives will all be present.
“Residents will be able to talk to us all but we will have separate rooms available for private discussions.
“We are very lucky to have prominent community figures in the shape of Ron Conway, chairman of Aspull New Springs and Whelley township forum, and Barbara Nettleton from One Voice Residents Association, who have agreed to take part.”
Ron said: “As someone who is active in the community I get contacted on a number of issues and I meet with the police on a regular basis. This is an excellent idea and very forward thinking. I am glad to give my time to this initiative.”
Barbara added: “This is a great idea - not only will residents be able to speak about their concerns to prominent figures they will be able to see what’s going on in the community and hopefully get more involved.”
