Business as usual?

Tuesday 27th March 2007 (ref: 88/2007)

Community and voluntary sector organisations in the borough are attending a special council-run seminar on expecting the unexpected – and managing if it really happens.

Wigan Investment Centre is the venue this Thursday (10.30am-3pm) for a free ‘business continuity management’ event, hosted by Wigan Council’s civil contingencies team. The free event will include seminars and workshops, and a buffet lunch.

Wigan Council’s business continuity officer, Sue Smith says:

“Continuity planning is still a novelty for many organisations, so we are giving local groups the chance to find out more about it and understand what they can do to minimise the impact of unexpected interruptions to their normal activities.

“The unexpected really does happen – look at the flash flooding in Boscastle and Carlisle, or the London bombings. Continuity management is all about being able to cope with crises like these and return as quickly as possible to ‘business as usual’.

Anybody interested in attending futiure events should contact Sue Smith on 01942 486773 as soon as possible.
