WIGAN’S free Festival Fever season climaxes this weekend with wonderful WOW.
Alexandra Park in Newtown hosts this year’s Wigan One World festival as former home Mesnes Park’s multi-million pound restoration continues.
And organisers are promising the park will become a “crucible of creativity” on Sunday.
WOW festival is a free family celebration of diversity in our world, especially cultural diversity.
More than 200 artists from countries as far flung as Martinique and Holland will perform.
Arts and Festival organiser for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, Chris Wyatt said:
“WOW is a creative fusion of local and international artistic performers, dancers, singers and musicians.
“With the appearance this year of German carnival creators Shademakers, our very own local hip hop star A Me B, the beautifully graceful Ballet Entredanzas from Spain, Alexandra Park is set to become a crucible of creativity.”
Last year more than 9,000 people enjoyed the day.
Chris added:
“This arts festival is now firmly established in Wigan and Leigh’s cultural calendar but we also welcome our neighbours from across Greater Manchester to come and enjoy this wonderful day as well.”
Dance groups from Barcelona, Germany, Martinique, Trinidad and Egypt will perform along with home grown talent.
There’ll also be a musical feast with bands playing from Holland, Poland and Malta while this year’s crowd pleasing carnival parade will be led by Germany’s Shademakers.
WOW at Alexandra Park, Newtown takes place this Sunday 2 August between 12pm and 5pm.
A free shuttle bus will be operating at regular intervals from the bus station in Wigan town centre, Wigan North Western Railway Station and Robin Park Arena. Starting at 11.30am.
There is also free on street parking in the town centre on a Sunday and parking is free at Robin Park Arena, Loire Drive, Newtown.
