Donkey rides, carousels, buckets and spades, Punch & Judy…in Leigh?
No, you haven’t suddenly been transported to the coast, because the beach is back!
And next week it will be a case of; ‘we do love to be beside the Leigh-side!’
Between Monday August 4 and Saturday August 9, Leigh’s town hall square will be transformed into a sandy beach.
The return of the ever popular beach event means that even families who may not be able to take a holiday this year will still be able to get a taste of the seaside!
Cllr David Molyneux, Cabinet Champion for Regeneration and Deputy Leader of Wigan Council says:
“The old Wakes Weeks usually meant a trip to the seaside for thousands of Leythers, but these days you don’t have to be beside the seaside to have a beach!
“We are really excited to be able to bring the beach event back to Leigh, along with all the thrills of the seaside. Hopefully the arrival of the beach will bring the sun with it.
“We would like to thank Travis Perkins of Leigh for kindly supplying the sand.”
The beach will be open for enjoyment Monday August 4 noon to 5pm then Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9 August 10.30am to 5pm.
