Imagine the perfect beach holiday.
The kids making sandcastles while you relax and enjoy the feel of the sand beneath your feet.
Imagine you’re in…Leigh?
No, its not Leigh-on-sea, Essex, but land-locked Leigh, in Wigan Borough, where the town hall square will become a sandy beach for five whole days.
Locals, holidaymakers and day-trippers will be able to enjoy all the usual seaside attractions- donkey rides, carousels, candy floss, and of course buckets and spades.
Councillor John O’Neill, Cabinet Champion for Regeneration and Deputy Leader of Wigan Council said:
“The old wakes weeks usually meant a trip to the seaside for thousands of Leythers, but these days you don’t have to be beside the seaside to have a beach!
“This kind of event has proved really popular in the past, so we are excited at being able to bring all the thrills of the seaside to Leigh Town Centre again. Hopefully the arrival of the beach next week will bring the sun with it.”
The beach will be open for enjoyment from 11am to 5pm from Tuesday August 7 until Saturday August 11.
