A Wigan family have lost their home after repeatedly failing to heed warnings about their anti social behaviour.
Nicola Barr, 32, Jason Povey, 36, and their two children left their council house on Avon Road, Norley Hall, last week - just before bailiffs were due to evict them following a catalogue of criminal activity that had made their neighbours’ lives a misery.
After close work with the police, Wigan and Leigh Housing (WALH) gathered evidence against the family, which included stolen property being recovered from the address and numerous complaints from neighbours about noise.
A spokesman said:
“Because the couple had signed up to an ‘introductory’ tenancy when they moved in they were still on trial. Initially we tried to engage with the family to improve their behaviour. But when it became clear this wasn’t working we served notice on them to quit.”
The couple appealed against the decision, but it was upheld at a subsequent review. And at a hearing at Wigan County Court on 11th December, WALH won a 28 day possession order. The family left their home on 14th January before the eviction was due to take place.
Ashley Crumbley, chief executive of Wigan and Leigh Housing, said:
"This sends out a strong message that tenants who show no consideration to their neighbours can expect no leniency from Wigan and Leigh Housing.
"We will not tolerate anti social behaviour from people who rent a council house and are fully prepared to take whatever action is necessary to protect our law-abiding tenants.”
