An Ashton youth group is bringing entertainment to the town for all young people to enjoy.
In the past year, Ashton Youth Action group has been granted funding from National Lottery Awards for All and the Youth Opportunities Fund.
The group is now using part of that money to bring the Rock Bus to Market Square in Ashton every Tuesday night.
The bus provides a range of activities for young people including DJing, wide screen television, Internet access, board games and X Box.
Ashton Youth Action Treasurer Laura Jane Morriss says:
"The money we have raised is not just for our use. It is to provide for other young people as well. We are all very proud of what we have achieved."
The Wigan Council Children and Young People’s Service youth service, the Wigan Council for Voluntary Youth Services and Wigan Methodist Church are also playing a part in bringing the Rock Bus to Ashton by providing supplementary funding, in kind support and staff.
Ashton Youth Action has undertaken several projects recently to improve life in their community.
The group made a film to highlight the positive things local young people do, they organised a community day at Jubilee Park last summer and during the recent February half-term the group funded a series of activities and workshops across the town.
- The Rock Bus will be in Market Square in Ashton every Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm until the end of March. All young people are welcome onboard. For further information contact Wigan Council youth service on (01942) 488056.
