Everybody needs good neighbours…
And thanks to a township project people in Leigh might have 5,000 of them to choose from!
The Leigh Township Forum’s Neighbours Project was launched last year as a bid to try and get the views of residents on a whole host of important issues.
The aim is to promote knowledge and understanding between people from different communities and different backgrounds and to celebrate the spirit of being a good neighbour.
Joint chair of the forum Cllr Charles Rigby explains:
“The project is about encouraging people to get to know a little about their neighbours and other people they meet during their daily life and breaking down the barriers between people of different ages, lifestyles and backgrounds.”
To start the ball rolling the team behind the project sent out a survey to 5,000 residents asking them the give their views on life in Leigh.
There was an extra incentive for residents to fill in the forms and return them in the form of a prize for one lucky entrant in the form of shopping vouchers.
Now the results of the survey are in and the team will begin to use the information to build up a picture of Leigh life from the locals.
Forum Joint Chair Pam Stewart says:
“We used postal survey to ask 5,000 residents across Leigh what they think about their neighbours and their neighbourhood. The results of the survey will help inform the work of the project.”
And he winner of the prize draw was resident William Mort who recently picked up his prize from Pam and Cllr Rigby.
Township Manager Andrew Sharrock adds:
“We will use the information from the survey to encourage positive interaction between different groups. The aims is to break down barriers, bust myths, develop and build mutual understanding and respect between people of different cultures, races, ages faiths and lifestyles. It’s an incredibly important piece of work and we’d like to thank everyone who took time to fill in the survey.”
