Funny Turn: John Bishop

John Bishop, multi-award winning comedian and comic writer, brings his revolutionary style of stand-up to the Monaco Ballroom, Hindley on Friday 23rd March.

Liverpudlian John, hailed as one of the best young talents on the UK comedy circuit, embarks on his first ever headline national tour this spring. The man was dubbed a ‘comedy revolutionary’ by The Independent and is playing 14 nationwide dates throughout March and April as part of his ‘Going to Work Tour’.

Tickets are now on sale for John’s Monaco performance which follows on from his previous memorable 2004 performance at the Mill at the Pier, Wigan.

John said,

“It’s great to be going back to Wigan after so long. I have family in Wigan so I have been there outside of doing comedy. I did miss the chance of going to the Pier night club when you needed to wear 20 inch flares and have a mullet - of course I will have the trousers with me just in case they come in handy! It’s great to see Latics are now a Premiership team and have a good Liverpudlian manager in Paul Jewell. The show looks like it will sell out in the other nearby venues like Manchester and Liverpool so I am looking forward to a good crowd in Wigan. Last time the audience at the Mill were great and the Monaco Ballroom has such a great reputation. I am really looking forward to it.”

Brian Yates, Leisure Venues Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, said,

“John is an extremely talented guy who brought the house down when he played the Mill. He has a unique relaxed style of delivery and generates a real rapport with his audience. We are delighted to have been chosen as a venue for his debut national tour. Tickets are already selling well and we are encouraging people to buy early to avoid disappointment.”

John first performed stand-up comedy in November 2000, within four months he was the headline act at some of the regular comedy clubs in the North of England. John also holds the record for being the most nominated person at the North West Comedy Awards having been nominated in four different categories with a total of five nominations; winning the 2004 North West Comedian of the Year.

Tickets for John Bishop at the Monaco Ballroom, Hindley on Friday 23rd March are on sale now priced at £12. Please contact the box office at Wigan Tourist Information Centre, Wallgate, Wigan on 01942 825677.
