Think while you drink.
That’s what community safety bosses are hoping revellers in the borough’s pubs and clubs will do this Christmas – and beyond.
The Wigan & Leigh Community Safety Partnership has produced a range of beer mats featuring straightforward, hard-hitting messages on such subjects as domestic violence, alcohol abuse and criminal damage.
Councillor Keith Cunliffe, Wigan Council’s cabinet champion for neighbourhoods explains:
“Having a good time means knowing where to draw the line and we want people to think about the possible consequences of drinking to excess. Crime is reducing fast and we want people to get the messages that they are increasingly likely to get caught and suffer the consequences – if they offend.
“Hopefully, our campaign will contribute to falling crime and improving health rates in the borough.”
160 000 beer mats will be delivered to the hundreds of pubs and clubs across the borough over the coming months, starting this weekend in Leigh and Wigan town centres.
