Thirteen year old Laura Swindells of Tyldesley is the proud owner of a shiny new bike after winning a Christmas competition run by the council and Tyldesley traders.

Over twenty businesses have been displaying baubles in their windows in the run up to Christmas, and shoppers had to count the number to be entered into a prize draw.

The bike was donated by Tyldesley and District Chamber of Trade and local councillor Brian Wilson.

A similar competition was run in Atherton, with a still-to-be-claimed first prize of £50 of shopping vouchers, donated by all the ward councillors in Atherton and Atherleigh. Businesses in both towns also donated prizes

Town centre coordinator Janis Maleedy said: “We had a great response to both competitions. It was an ideal way to raise awareness of the variety of businesses that are on people’s doorsteps in their local town centres.”
