Thousands of schoolchildren are getting ready to finish school this week.
The shout of ‘school’s out!’ will ring out around the borough from Wednesday December 20 onwards but with it comes a vital message to drivers to take care.
Schools break up at different times on different days and road safety bosses want all road users to make it a safe start to the holidays.
Wigan Council Road Safety Manager Julie Dagnall says:
“Pupils will be leaving school at all sorts of times over the next few days. With Christmas just days away, road safety might not be the first thing on the children’s minds. Drivers, please take special care by slowing down and looking out for children.”
It’s the same message in the New Year when the start to return from Wednesday January 3 onwards.
Parents can help by making sure their children wear light-coloured jackets and by reminding them to be aware of the traffic, especially in the dark mornings and evenings.
