Christmas has come early for mum Katherine Rimmer all because she let a friend in on a good thing.
Katherine, who hails from Ashton in Makerfield, is one of many mums across the borough who is a member of Sure Start.
The government-backed council organisation aims to give children the best possible start in life.
Katherine and one year-old son James are already enjoying the benefits of a host of services provided by Sure Start. These include everything from Play & Learn sessions for young James through to advice on jobs on careers for parents.
As an extra incentive Sure Start organised a competition for existing members to recommend a friend.
Katherine did just that and her nomination was the first drawn out of the hat. She wins high street shopping vouchers, just in time for those last-minute Christmas purchases.
Antonia Hayes, who is acting central support team manager for Sure Start, says:
“The membership scheme is for parents of children under five across the borough.
“It allows them to access the excellent support and services offered by our children’s centres.
“The Recommend a Friend scheme was a great success and it just shows that existing members are more than happy to pass on the good news about Sure Start to others.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part and hope Katherine enjoys spending her vouchers.”
