Shopping for success…

Leigh Skills Shop really works!

If you need proof, asks the hundreds of local people who have found a new job or gained qualifications since it opened for business.

Based on Market Street the shop has seen a steady stream of people coming through the doors since it opened in March.

They’ve all been looking for advice and guidance on training and job opportunities – and they’ve not been disappointed.

In fact in just five months it’s already smashed its own targets with 429 people seeking help. Of these 74 have found jobs and 310 have improved their prospects by gaining qualifications.

Leigh Skills Shop Co-ordinator Anne Doyle, explains:

“The shop follows a similar award-winning project created for Wigan’s Grand Arcade shopping centre. The council and its partners were able to get £250,000 in funding for the Leigh shop.

“With developments like the Leigh Sports Village and Bickershaw creating new jobs, the scheme is designed to help local people get them.”

Anne adds “We are in a strong position to help local people by working directly with employers. We’d encourage everyone who wants to improve their prospects to visit the shop and se how we can help.”

  • Anyone who would like to find out more can drop in to the shop at 8 Market Street, Leigh from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, or phone 01942 404456.
