Housing company bites back

A hot-tempered council tenant who chewed through a telephone line at his local housing office has been hit with an Anti-Social Behaviour Injunction (ASBI).

32 year old Terrance Edwards, formerly of Limefield, Scholes, was frequently hostile towards Wigan & Leigh Housing (WALH) staff and visitors at the Wigan area office. On one occasion, Mr Edwards became so enraged that he even bit through office’s freephone line intended for use by customers.

The two-year injunction, secured last week (22nd August) at Liverpool County Court, aims to prevent any further aggressive or abusive behaviour by Mr Edwards towards WALH employees and customers. Mr Edwards is banned from entering the housing office in Wigan and in nearby Platt Bridge. The order also carries with it the threat of arrest and up to two years imprisonment if the terms of the order are broken.

Wigan & Leigh Housing Chief Executive, Ashley Crumbley says:

"We will use all the powers available to us to protect our staff and customers from unacceptable behaviour like this. We have been successful in eight similar court actions recently, which come with power of arrest. The message to people like Mr Edwards is clear: behave or else!"
