NUT strike action - schools affected

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) is staging a 24-hour walkout on Thursday 24th April – the first national strike for 21 years.

So far, the following schools have told the council that they will be closed, either in part or fully. However, just because a school is not on this list doesn't mean it  won't be affected and parents are advised to check with their child's school.

We'll continually update the information whenever we receive further details from schools.

  • Tyldesley St George’s Central
  • Wigan St James’ - closed for Reception, and Years 1 and 2
  • Beech Hill – open for foundation stage, Year 2 and Year 3. One class in Year 5 will be in all day and one class in Year 5 will be in morning only.
  • Tyldesley Primary - closed for years 1, 2 and 5
  • Standish St Wilfrid’s CE – six classes closed
  • Leigh St Joseph’s – closed for three classes in KS2
  • Westleigh Methodist - closed for nursery, reception and Year 1
  • St John’s Mosley Common – four classes closed
  • Ashton-In-Makerfield St Wilfrid’s – closed for years 5 and 6
  • Worsley Mesnes - closed for years 1,2 and 3
  • Bryn St Peter’s – five out of seven classes closed

  • Canon Sharples - Eight classes and nursery closed
  • St David's, Haigh - Five classes closed
  • Leigh Sacred Heart - Years 5 and 7 must leave early
  • Atherton St Richard's - Open for Reception, and Years 1 and 5 only
