It’s party time in Lowton this weekend so get ready to Spring into action!
The latest in a series of community environment parties will be coming to Braithwaite Park on Saturday and it promises to be the biggest and bet yet.
Organised by Wigan Council’s Street Scene Team, the party promises something for the whole family, as residents, children and environmental experts join forces to give the area a big spring clean.
The day will begin with a litter-pick around the park with a host of fun and interesting activities along the way including the chance to sow wild flower seeds and make hanging baskets and bat boxes.
Children will also be able to take part in completing a large willow sculpture that will be placed in one of the ponds.
Residents, Leigh Cadets, council officers and community leaders will also be present.
Wigan Council’s People and Places Manager Nick Burdekin says:
“The council is committed to helping people improve the quality of their local environment. The Braithwaite Park Residents’ Group has been looking after their park for more than three years now and there are visible differences as a result. We will continue to help those who want to take pride in where they live. It’s going to be a great party!”
Lowton resident Nicola Newton adds:
“This is our third major event and there is now a level of expectation about the quality of our park. People are really taking an interest and the wild flowers from last year in particular drew a lot of compliments as well a being beneficial to butterflies and insect life.”
There will be music and food for the volunteers supplied by Northern Harvest.
The event is being supported by Wigan Council’s Street Scene and cleansing teams and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
