  • Abandoned Vehicles
    All reports of abandoned vehicles must be directed to Greater Manchester Police. The council are no longer responsible for processing these reports.

    The Council provides adaptations to Council properties to suit the needs of disabled people or people with mobility problems.

    Occupational Therapists from the Department of Adult Services support people with physical disabilities. They offer advice about how to perform household tasks more easily and can arrange adaptations to the home. There is no charge for the advice that they provide.

    The council works in partnership with Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust, and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust to provide confidential advice and support to people living with or affected by HIV or AIDS and their families.

    Substance misuse services in the borough are provided by the Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. They provide a range of services to people who misuse drugs and alcohol, and their families and friends.
  • Alley Gating
    Since 2004, alley gates have been installed by the Community Safety Partnership as a means of safe guarding the rear entrances to houses, reducing burglary and anti-social behaviour. Lockable gates are erected at the ends of rear alleyways. Only residents from the affected properties have access.

    The council provides a free service for the removal of dead animals from all publicly accessible areas such as highways and parkland.
